CEDAR FALLS, IOWA, April 26, 2013 – Blackhawk Engineering, LLC, a Cedar-Falls-based Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining shop, is breaking ground on a 40,000-square-foot facility Thursday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. The ceremony, which will be held at Blackhawk Engineering, LLC, 118 Blackhawk Ln. in Cedar Falls, will be followed by a light lunch.
“Our steady growth within the industry is the impetus behind our expansion,” says John Oltman, Blackhawk Engineering, LLC general manager. “Our new facility will allow us to add additional state-of-the-art equipment, expand our employee breakroom, upgrade our employee locker rooms, and add more parking spaces and three new truck docks. The new facility will be air-conditioned, just like our current facility, to continue to provide a comfortable working environment for our employees.”
The expansion will initially create 16 new jobs for forklift operators, machine operators, quality control inspectors and maintenance staff. Over time it is expected that this expansion will support the addition of up to 40 new employees. Interviews will be held for these new positions in October, prior to the opening of the facility in late November. Blackhawk Engineering, LLC provides complete training on all equipment to qualified new hires.
“We are investing more than $3.5 million in our expanded facilities and new equipment,” said Oltman. “We are making this investment in our employees, facility and technology in the Cedar Valley because this is our home, and the workforce here allows us to put out the highest-quality parts for our customers.”
Blackhawk Engineering, LLC, founded in 1974, is a privately held company and a subsidiary of EXX Inc. The company currently employs 160 employees during three shifts. Blackhawk Engineering, LLC received the Continued Investor Award in 2012 from the City of Cedar Falls and Cedar Falls Utilities.
